The Sea Scorpion: Ultimate Ambush Hunter of Cornish Rock Pools

Uncover the incredible camouflage and hunting tactics of one of the rocky shore’s most effective predators: the sea scorpion (Taurulus bubalis).

In this episode of my series of short marine wildlife films, we get up close with this fascinating bottom-dwelling fish. Renowned for its masterclass in disguise, the sea scorpion can alter its skin colour to blend seamlessly into the surrounding kelp, coralline algae, and rocky crevices of Cornwall’s shallows.

This patient predator sits motionless, waiting for an unsuspecting prawn or small fish to drift too close before striking with lightning-fast speed. We also take a closer look at its developing young.
