Description

The Great Southern Reef is dominated by a beautiful canopy forming seaweed species known as “Golden Kelp” or Ecklonia radiata.

This kelp, sometimes called common kelp is known as a foundation species as it provides food, shelter and habitat for hundreds of species. Seaweeds also play an important role in slowing climate change by taking carbon out of the atmosphere.

Featuring UNSW’s Associate Professor Adriana Verges. Adriana is co-organising Australia’s first ever seaweed festival later this month. Check out www,seaweedforestsfestival.com learn more.
