Description

After a brutal, storm-battered winter, a series of summer heatwaves have completely transformed our local rock pools into a lush, dense underwater jungle. In this film, I take you along with me as I explore the intertidal world during this explosive seasonal shift—experiencing the glorious highs of the heatwave, but also the reality of battling the elements when the coastal weather turns cold and windy.

Tiptoeing between the tidal pools reveals a secret world of resilience and survival. We find quiet nurseries of hidden fish eggs and watch baby edible and velvet swimming crabs navigating their brand-new, vulnerable lives, and the incredible parenting of one of the world’s tiniest yet most beautiful cushion stars.

We also slow down to witness the quiet, intense beauty of the coast’s strangest inhabitants: sea slugs. Using macro lenses, we look closely at the intricate anatomy of the sea lemon, the spectacular “disco Doris” (Gargamella rosi), and a rare Cornish discovery: the hair curler sea slug. You will see their sensory rhinophores and delicate, naked gills pulsing with life.

If you enjoy stepping away into the wild and discovering the hidden details of our marine world, please consider subscribing to follow the journey.
