Meet one of the most bizarre and fascinating residents of the UK coastline: the sea hare (Aplysia punctata).
In this episode of my series of marine wildlife mini-films, we head into the shallow rocky shore to uncover the secret life of this incredible mollusc. Often overlooked as just a slow-moving grazer, the sea hare has an array of mind-blowing biological tricks up its sleeve — including a truly unique life cycle.
Using macro and wide angle filming, we look at how these creatures appear amongst the colourful seaweeds in spring, and what they are doing when they gather on mass in the shallows.
